I am looking for an inexpensive method (but still good quality) to get some old videos from VHS to DVD. Can anyone suggest a vendor (preferred to be in LA). Thanks!

Would a DVD/VHS player work for you. They are about $100 or less at best buy. You stick the VHS in and a blank dvd in and push record.
